Prevalence
According to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention the average age of FXS diagnosis for boys is 35-37 months while the girls are diagnosed at age 42 months. Both males and females by FXS. However it affects male more than female. That is because female has XX chromosomes and male has XY chromosomes. Male has only one X chromosomes and has nothing to spare. It is estimated that about 1 in 5,000 males are born with the disorder.
According to the new study conducted and published in 2012 by Researchers from University of Wisconsin -Madison Waisman Center and Researchers from Centers for Disease Control and Prevention described that the study is showing higher number of people with premutation compared to previous research.
